- Alex Falcone took to Threads to regale users with his culinary mistake
- His post elicited further stories of switched-up foodstuffs and other products
- Many had made the exact same mistake of confusing cumin and cinnamon
A man who admitted to using cumin instead of cinnamon in his oatmeal ended up eliciting hilarious anecdotes from others who had made similarly unfortunate accidental product swaps in daily life.
‘Cinnamon and Cumin shouldn’t have so many letters in common while being the same color in the same size jar,’ wrote writer-comedian Alex Falcone on Threads.
‘Anyway, if anybody would like the recipe for my new “fajita-spiced oatmeal” let me know.’
Instead, users flooded the responses with their own light-hearted stories of mix-ups, both of food ingredients and other goods.

In fact, many others claimed to have confused the the exact same two spices by mistake in the past.
‘My cinnamon “fall flavored” guacamole didn’t go over well,’ a woman shared.
‘”These pancakes taste funny” said my oldest daughter. These were the Saturday morning breakfast after swim practice. My wife drove the swimmers and I made breakfast.
‘My wife said “Did you add cinnamon?” I said yes and she looked in the cabinet for the spice closest to the door. It was cumin. I started wearing glasses all day long after that,’ shared one dad.
‘Let me tell you about the time I put cumin in my golden chai instead of turmeric, then took the first sip on camera in Teams,’ a third chimed in.
‘Could definitely be enjoyed with the cinnamon hummus I made that one time,’ a fourth jested.
Then there were more random yet nauseating switch-ups.
‘Relatedly, I also recommend putting on one’s glasses before preparing a morning smoothie,’ one post read alongside images of two containers – one of an almond milk, the other of chicken stock.
Multiple people admitted to mixing up the exact same two spices
Others regaled the comments section with more stomach-churning switches
‘One is Sensodyne toothpaste, one is diaper rash cream. Guess which one I used to brush my teeth in the morning?’ a second posted next to an image of two small white tubes of paste side by side.
‘When I was a kid my mom had a penchant for the bulk section and once used an empty economy sized bottle of vanilla for soy sauce. Turns out soy sauce isn’t all that bad in breakfast pastries,’ a third offered.
Alex then posted a follow up to his original Thread: ‘This is one of the funniest comment sections I’ve ever had. Thank you all for screwing up too and making me feel better.’
